The growth of Major League Soccer over the last 20 years has been in pace with the growing popularity of soccer in the United States. The MLS is an excellent alternative to European pro leagues and also a way for aging stars to still compete at a high level. The high level of play is what makes MLS so compelling.
Sports betting was legalized in May 2019, and this means that fans will soon be able to bet on soccer games, including all games of the MLS season and playoffs. Learn more about soccer betting, soccer odds, and where you can bet on the MLS in Indiana.
Where to Bet on the MLS in Indiana
With the legalization of sports betting in Indiana, soccer betting will soon be available to soccer fans. Live sports betting at commercial casinos is expected to start in the Fall of 2019, meaning you’ll be able to bet on the 2020 MLS season.
Initially, soccer betting will be limited to live casinos. Online sports betting will not launch until sometime in the Spring to Summer of 2020. We don’t know presently which casinos will allow you to bet on soccer online but expect many of the same companies that currently offer online sports betting in New Jersey.
By the end of the year, we should have a better idea of which casinos plan to offer online sports betting, and we will update you at that time.
Types of MLS Bets Available
MLS is one of the fastest growing sports in America, and it is considered just as popular as Major League Baseball among 12 to 17-year-olds. Fans of the sports are fiercely loyal to their team, and it’s this type of fan that is expected to fuel soccer betting in Indiana.
Below are the types of bets you can place on MLS games. Note that soccer odds are a bit different in the United States than in Europe. US sportsbooks will use a moneyline format rather than decimal format.
What that means is that the favorite in a game will have – odds while the underdog will have + odds. When betting on a favorite, the odds listed tell you the amount you’ll have to wager to win $100. For underdog bets, the odds are the amount you can win on a $100 bet.
Moneyline – You’re betting on who will win the match. It doesn’t get any simpler.
Correct Score – If you follow soccer, you know that they are often low scoring contests. As such, you’ll have the chance to bet on the exact score at the end of the game.
Goals Betting – Online sportsbooks will set a line on total goals scored, and you’ll bet whether the total goals will be over or under that line.
Half-Time / Full-Time Betting – You’re betting on which team will lead at Half-Time, Full-Time, or both.
Prop Betting – There’s a lot of prop betting for MLS games. You’re betting on events not directly related to the outcome of the game. For example, you may be on the number of penalties or red cards given during a game.
Parlays – Like other sports, parlays are a popular form of soccer betting. You’ll bet on multiple teams at once, and if every part of your bet hits, you win, and often you’ll win big with these bets.
Futures – These are more of a gamblers bet as you’re betting on an event in the future, such as who will win the MLS Cup. Depending on when you bet, the soccer odds can be massive for longshots. Longshot bets seldom win, but when they do the payoffs are insane.
When Will MLB Betting Launch in Indiana
Indiana doesn’t have any MLB franchises, but there are several teams in neighboring states. As such, you can expect ample action on MLB games once Indiana sports betting finally launches. However, we don’t expect that to be until sometime in 2020.
Since legislation was just passed, casinos will focus on getting live sportsbooks launched and then focus on launching their online equivalents. You should be able to bet on MLB games at live casinos by the fall, and we anticipate mobile sports betting to launch around the Spring of 2020. Once that happens, anyone physically located in Indiana will be able to bet on their favorite MLB teams.
