The Purdue Boilermakers Face a Steep, Uphill Climb to the Top of the B1G 10 Standings

Boilermakers Chances of Upsetting College Football and Winning the Big 10

College Football is back! The first week of the NCAA game slate is in the books. Unfortunately for the Purdue Boilermakers, week one was not kind. Starting off as 11 point favorites in their game versus Nevada, the Boilermakers raced out to an early 24-7 advantage. Purdue fans went ballistic, bettors jumped for joy and everyone thought that 2019 may just be their year. Then the second half took place, and Purdue’s season will never be the same. That being said, the rest of the B1G 10 face tough tasks throughout stacked schedules, so there remains a chance the Conference fails to see an undefeated team in 2019. So, what are the odds the Purdue Boilermakers could pull off the shock of a lifetime and win the B1G 10?

Well, not great if we’re being honest. The B1G Ten is seemingly full of more and more talent every year.  Sadly, the Boilermakers are barely a top five team in the B1G 10 West, seeing  a motivated Wisconsin, and a rejuvenated Nebraska, with better odds to win the division. Never mind the stacked Eastern side of the bracket. Betting on the Boilermakers with online gambling may be easier than ever, but as Saturday evening shows, 2019 may not be the year to do so. The Boilermaker BIG 10 West odds sat at +400 for most sportsbooks, and a win is far less likely after this weekend’s results.

The Boilermakers predicted win total has taken a massive leap in 2019. Projected to win just two and half games a season ago, their over/under in the win column for this season sits at seven and a half. Having already taken a hit in week one, eight wins may seem unattainable. Looking at the team’s remaining schedule, games against Vanderbilt, Minnesota, Illinois, Maryland, Northwestern, and Indiana are all winnable. However, the Boilermakers will be in tough against Penn State, Iowa, Nebraska, and Wisconsin. Not to mention an out of conference showdown with TCU in September. Luckily Purdue doesn’t have to play Michigan, Michigan State or Ohio State this season. Unfortunately, that doesn’t make their climb to the top any easier. The Boilermakers are simply outgunned in 2019.

It All Went So Wrong So Quickly, Can the BoilerMakers Odds Bounce Back?

This year’s Purdue Boilermakers may be the most intriguing team seen in West Lafayette since the days of Drew Brees. Head Coach and spread advocate Jeff Brohm brings some truly innovative concepts and different wrinkles to an offense that was far too predictable before his arrival. Sophomore wide receiver Rondale Moore makes things pretty simple. Get him the ball early and often, and let number four win the game for you. Moore totalled 1,471 yards and 14 touchdowns last on year on 135 touches. Moore is already on NFL radars, and Brohm will do everything in his power to showcase his superstar in 2019 and beyond. Building the offense around the talents of Moore in 2020 and maximising the recruiting class later this year will give Purdue it’s best hope of winning the division in decades.

Purdue Football odds currently sit at +3500 to win the B1G 10. An unenviable task these days, with the presence of perennial powerhouses Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, Iowa and Wisconsin. Any result outside of those four teams would be seen as a huge shock to the country, and the entire betting world. It would be seen as, perhaps, one of the largest upsets in sporting history were Purdue to win the BIG 10 in 2019.
