How to Play Roulette

Roulette has long been one of the most popular classic casino games of chance. It’s fun, it’s sophisticated, and it’s simple. Players just love it.

However, even with such a simple game as roulette, there is much to consider. Here we’ve made a guide to walk you through just how to play roulette.

The Positions

The first thing you’ll notice when approaching a roulette table is all of your options. Boxes and boxes of them actually. The roulette table is filled with boxes indicating the result of the dealer’s spin.

These wagers are divided into two positions. The Inside Position is all of the individual numbers, while the Outside Position is all of the surrounding boxes indicating color, section, and rows of the inside numbers.

The roulette board can look a little intimidating, like a craps table. However, after a few spins, it all makes sense

 The Bets for Roulette

Here is a list of all the wagers available on a roulette table.

Inside Bets

Straight Bet: Placed directly on one or more numbers on the board. Payout is therefore 35 to 1.

Split Bet: Placed on the line between two numbers on the board. Payout is therefore 17 to 1.

The Trio: Placed on the line on the outer edge of the board of the three numbers you are betting. Payout is therefore 11 to 1.

The Corner: Placed at the intersection of four numbers you are betting. Payout is therefore 8 to 1.

Outside Bets

0 and 00 are both Green and located at the top of the roulette board. Each is considered a loss for outside bets.

The Column or Row: This box is located at the bottom of the roulette board and indicates one of three rows. The payout is 2 to 1.

The Dozens: This box is located on the outside and indicates one of three different groups of 12. The payout is 2 to 1.

Odd or Even: By placing your wager directly on either of these boxes, you indicate if the winning number will be Odd or Even. Payouts are Even.

High or Low: By placing your wager directly on either of these boxes, you indicate if the winning number will be High (19-36) or Low (1-18). Payouts are Even.

Red or Black: By placing your wager directly on either of these boxes, you indicate if the winning number will be Red or Black. Payouts are Even.

Different Actions at the Roulette Table

Cashing In

To cash in, simply get the dealer’s attention, place your money on the table, and indicate what color or denomination chips you would like. You will quickly be cashed in.

Place Your Bets

Once the dealer has removed the plunger indicating the previous spins winner, you can place your chips on any of the wagers (boxes) you would like.

No More Bets

The betting round ends when the ball is spinning, and the dealer indicates no more bets allowed with a wave of his hand over the board.

Cash Out

Cashing out is as simple as cashing in. Simply gather all of your chips, and the dealer will return you with your payout.

Roulette Tips

Many roulette players use probability as their main strategy. For instance, if the winning number has been Red for eight spins in a row, simple probability says it is due to be Black on an upcoming spin.

However, while probability may work some of the time, it’s in no way foolproof. Every spin is a new spin, and the odds of it being Red or Black are equal no matter what happened on the last spin.
